The biggest problem that I have with the C8 is that all the “SHOUTY” design elements are superficial lines added to Mk.1 Generic Supercar. At medium distance, it looks like a budget Lambo equivalent.
Which is great if your customers want to be recognized as driving a budget Lambo, not so great if there needs to be something that yells CORVETTE. The thing about the C4/C5 is that (like the C2), they completely redefined what “Corvette” looked like, but the result was not generic; so you could call the result “Corvette”. Cribbing from Pininfarina was a good idea, frankly - “It’s free real estate”.
It comes down to, is there a distinctive *shape* that says “Corvette”, or is there merely a set of dramatic lines that say “Corvette” (whatever that may be) drawn on a blank?

Granted, there was no way to keep the distinctive Corvette shape of the last 4 generations because of the move to mid-engine. Once they start hitting the streets, there will be so many of them that people will pretty quickly know they’re looking at a Corvette and not something Italian, but I get where you’re coming from.
Sometimes, a “clean sheet” design, even for an iconic model, is not a bad thing. I just would’ve liked to see it come out looking better than this.
The overall shape of the car in profile is very pleasing to the eye, but the front and back ends are way too over-
styled.

I’m a lunatic, I know, but I’d have liked echoes of the ‘53 Corvair concept in the shape.
I mean, would it have killed them to have a setback greenhouse on the sides, even as just one possible distinctive? All the way up through the C6, there was a setback greenhouse helping it look “swoopy”, and then “HA, no”.

Yeah, love the fastback look (a big reason I still
love the first gen Cayman).
